130-year-old Safiah to get MyKad with NRD's help
[ KUALA TERENGGANU ] The Terengganu national Registration Department(NRD)
will do all it can to help Safiah yusof, who at 130 is believed to be
the world's oldest woman, to get the MyKad smart identity document.
Its director, Abu Bakar A Rahman , said his officers were ready to visit
Safiah in her house in Kampung Butut in Kuala Berang near here as soon
as she could provide her latest photograph and gave a date for them to
do so.
"We are more than willing to go out of our way to help senior citizens
like her," he said yesterday."
Abu Bakar was asked to comment on an appeal by Safiah, which was reported
in the Utusan Malaysia newspaper yesteday, asking the department to allow
her to use her old identity document.
Safiah had said that she longer had the mobility to go the NRD's office
to get her MyKad done.
Abu Bakar added that Safiah needed to get her old document changed as
otherwise it would be difficult for her to deal with government and private
institutions from next year when the use of the MyKad comes fully into
force.
