TNB transformers worth RM200,000 stolen
[ SEREMBAN ] Two 11kv transformers worth RM200,000 belonging to Tenaga
Nasional Berhad (TNB) were stolen from a swithyard in the light industrial
estate in Taman Pinggiran Senawang here yesterday.
Negri Sembilan TNB general manager Ismail Kalil said the loss was discovered
after its workers complaints of a power outage in the area at 8.40am.
He said the thieves also made off with the aluminium gate leading to the
yard and that a police report had been lodged on the theft.
Ismail believed the thieves were after the copper wires in the transformers
as they could fetch a high price in the black market.
He said the thieves were most likely professionals as a crane and a trailer
would have been needed to transport the transformers, which weighed about
three tons each.
He added that this was not the first such incident in the State and that
transformer thefts in Negri Sembilan since 2005 until now had caused the
company to lose about RM1.5 million.
