December finish for Queensbay
PENANG:
Queensbay Mall,formerly the proposed Bayan Mall project that was abandoned
for eight years,will now be completed in December,seven months ahead of
schejule.
"Last October,when the Chief Minister lanunched the (revived) project
(renamed Queensbay Mall),I promised that we would complete it ahead of
schedule,"CP Group executibe chairman Tan Chew Piau said.
Tan attributed the achievement to the cooperation provided by the state
authorities.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon,who was at the topping-up ceremony,was
given the honour of putting his initials on the last piece of roofing.
Tan said htere had benn many enquiries by prospective tenants, The mall
will have more than 500 retail lots.
He said 75% of the outlets had been ;eased out to trusted brands,and that
Jusco would be the anchor tenant.
"More than 60 established retailers are making their maiden entry
into Penang through Queensbay Mall," Tan added.
Among the big names are Gap,Zara,Heuer,Arnold Palmer Ladies,Nike Woman,TGI
Friday's,Sakae Suchi and House of Paddington.
The Queensbay Mall project is CP Landmark's first investment in Penang,Tan
said,adding that the company had invested avout RM200mil to revive the
project.
Among the projects undertaken by the group are CP Tower,Eastin Hotel,as
well as Kota Villa,Bukit Serdang and Semenyih Impian residential estates.
Dr Koh said the group was appointed in late 2003 to unertake the progect
to revive the abandoned project that was part of the integrated Bayan
Bay waterfront development scheme.
The construction of the mall,formerly known as the Bayan World Megamall,stalled
in 1998 following the Asian financial crisis.
