Athlete to fly home today KUALA LUMPUR:
Federal Territory basketball player Wan Chee Yuam,nursing a fractured
leg since a fall in Kedah ove ra month ago,will be coming back home today.
He will be discharged from the Alor Star Hospiral in the morning and will
fly back here at 11am,accompanied by team captain Moh Jian Wei.
The Kuala Lumpur Basketball Association is paying for his flight,and will
proved RM20,000 for his upkeep over the two years that doctors said he
will have to stay off the court.
Chee Yuan said the National Sports Institute would help to provide physiotherapy
treatment.
While he has been advised not to move about so much,Chee Yuan will limp
into the arms of his waiting family in crutches when he arrives home with
Moh.
Fortunately, he does not need a wheelchair.
"I do not want my parents to worry too much," he said,looking
forward to plyaing his favourite game again after he fully recovers from
his injury.
The 20-years-old son of a plumber her, who has been playing playing basketball
since he was 16,fractured his leg during a game in the Malaysia Games
(Sukma) final between his team and Sarawak on June 20. His team lost 58-69.
After his team members left for home,he was alone at the hospital.
Due to the distance and their financial constraints, the family could
not make regular visits to the hospital to see him.
Sister Tek Yong,24,and her parents avorted a plan to visit him on learning
that Chee Yuan was being discharged from the hospital.
"We wanted to go visit him but my brother told us not to take the
trouble because he would be back here soon," said the hairdresser,who
orks in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here.
"My parents are sad and worried about him,especially my mum,but my
brother kept telling us that he is well taken care of and everything is
all right.
"My moter will take care of him for the next two years and she will
probably send him to my grandma's in Subang when she's busy.
