Plam for more community colleges { JELI } The
Higher Education Miinstry plans to double the number of community coleges
under the Ninth Malaysia Plan,as it is highly popular among school-leavers
and young working adults.
As the courses were tailored to meet community needs,many graduates could
easily find jobs,Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said.
At present,there are 30 colleges throughout the country catering to 10,000
full-time students and 50,000 part-timers.
This year there would be and intake of 5,000 students beginning next week,
Mustapa told newsmen after flagging off an Umno Jeli division expedition
to Terengganu.
Mustapa said that the fulltime students had enrolled in two-year certificate
courses in fields such as computers,mechanical engineering,fashion designing,hair
styling and marketing.
The courses at the various colleges would dffer based on the needs of
the communities in which they are located.
He said graduate cpi;d also enrol in technical colleges and institutions
of higher learning if they academic qualifications.
The community college is also a lifelong learning experience,as its entry
requirement is only an SPM pass in Bahasa Malaysia.
