Woman , son survive 25m fall PENANG :
A 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son miraculously survived
when their car plunged more than 25m to the ground from a three-storey
car park in Julutong here.
Housewife Kwok Kam Mooi and her Year Four son Ivan Lim Wai were on their
way to lunch when the incident happened at about 11.45am yesterday.
Lim Wai, when met at the Penang Hospital's casualty ward, said his mother
was trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle, and their Proton Waja rammed
into the wall.
"Our car then plunged to the ground and landed on its side, propped
up by another vehicle," said Lim, who sustained some bruises.
"Luckily, I was wearing my seatbelt, which prevented me from hitting
my head against the windscreen.
"The force of the crash was so great that the seatbelt pulled hard
against my abdomen."
Kwok received more than 30 stitches for the wounds on the left side of
her head. She was admitted overnight to ensure that she did not suffer
a concussion.
Witness Roshidah Othman, 41, who works in a car sales office on the ground
floor, said she was attending to a customer when she noticed debris falling
to the ground.
"Second later, I saw a car plunging and I shouted to my two colleagues.
I then saw a woman and a boy inside the car," she said.
"We quickly got them out of the wreckage through the front passenger
side. The boy was crying while the woman was bleeding from the head."
Roshidah said she got them each a hot drink while waiting for the ambulance
to arrive.
