Driver,son killed in crash
JASIN : A 39-year-old trailer driver and his 14-year-old
son were killed when their 10-wheeler hit the rear of a 14-wheeler parked
in the emergency lane,and overturned at km187 of North-South Expressway
at 7.30am yesterday.
Roslan Momen,sustained chest and head injuries while his son Muhammad
Ewan Roslan suffered head injuries. Both died on the spot.
Roslan,whose trailer was full of empty bottles,was heading to Kuala Lumpur
from Tangkak.
Md Nasarudin Mahmod,37,who had parked his 14-wheeler in the emergency
lane after it broke down,said he was putting up the emergency sign at
the rear of the vehicle when he saw another trailer approaching.
"I quickly ran to the side," said the driver from Muar,who was
sending furniture from Muar to Sungai Mulof.
Both Md Nasarudin and his co-driver Hashim Jalil were in shock when they
were interviewed at the accident site.
Chief Inspector Zaki Ashar,head of Jasin traffic division,said the police
investigation showed that the trailer hit the right end of the parked
trailer before it overturned.
He said this was the second accident involving trailers at the same spot.
On Feb. 4,2004,a driver was killed while two others suffered serious injuries
in the accident.
At the Malacca Hospital mortuary,Roslan's wife,Rashidah Kadir,38,who was
in tears,said the last thing she did for her husband before he left was
to patch his shirt.
