NS trainee dies after fighting for air MALACCA : A national service trainee at the Ayer Keroh camp died yesterday morning after suffering breathing difficulties. Iliameera Azlan, from Seremban, was rushed to the emergency unit of the Malacca Hospital after other trainees found her struggling to breathe at 6.30am. The Malacca Hospital did not disclose the cause of death despite a post-mortem performed at noon yesterday. A report would also be sent to the Health Ministry, he said. Initial police investigation indicated no foul play, said state police chief SAC (I) Datuk Ayub Yaakob, who also visited the dormitory at the Ayer Keroh camp where Iliameera had stayed. “Our investigation shows there were no heavy physical activities the night before. Iliameera was a jovial girl who enjoyed the training. She also did not have any medical ailment,” he said. Iliameera is believed to have died on the way to hospital. Her father Azlan Jaafar, 46, said he received a call from the camp yesterday morning informing him of his eldest daughter’s condition and he rushed to Malacca from Seremban with his wife Hasnah Arshad. He said the eldest of his two girls had just received a letter from Malaysia Airlines System requesting her to attend an interview for a technician’s post on Jan 27. The parents had visited her on Jan 7 and had planned to take her out from the camp for the interview. She last called home on Jan 13, he said. Iliameera’s family said they were shocked by her death, as she was a healthy teenager. Director-general of National Service Training Department Abd Halim Abdul
Hamid was present at the mortuary to meet Iliameera’s parents and handed
over RM3,000 cash, an advance of the insurance claim.
