政治家の息子を逮捕

ペナン ：警察は先週の金曜日午後９時ごろ、 ジャラン・スルタン・アハマッド・シャーで１９歳の少年から100ｇのシャブ（末端価格RM55,000）を押収し、少年を逮捕した。スターの調べによると、少年の父親はペナンの有力政治家であることがわかった。

「少年は取り調べのため２週間の拘留を受けている。法律によれば、死刑判決が下るだろう」と麻薬取締り部門チーフのバトゥマァイさんは話す。警察はシャブのルート解明を行っている。このシャブは通称アイスと言われ、ヘロインよりも高価なものとして知られている。

またこの他にも警察はバトゥ・マウンとマカルム通りの民家から1.67ｋｇ（末端価格RM200,000）のヘロインを押収した。これらのヘロインは主に北部地域へ流通されていたとみられる。発表によると、警察は一連の捜査で女性一人を含む三人を逮捕した。容疑者たちは取り締まりを逃れるため、１週間から１０日ごとにアジトを移動し、１年近くにわたってヘロインのトレーディングを繰り返していたようだ。

Politician’s son arrested

PENANG : The teenage son of a politician was arrested in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah and 100g of syabu (methamphetamine crystals) worth RM55,000 seized from him.

State Narcotics Department chief Supt R.S.S. Batumalai said the 19-year-old was outside a bank when a team of officers arrested him at 9pm last Friday following a tip-off.

“He has been remanded for two weeks pending investigations into the case, now being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act which carries the death sentence,” he told a press conference yesterday.

“We are now trying to determine the source of the syabu, which is more popularly known as ice. It is a designer drug, more expensive than heroin.”

A check by The Star showed that the teenager’s father is the branch chief of a political party on the island.

On another case, Supt Batumalai said the 1.67kg of heroin worth about RM200,000 seized from a drug “laboratory” in Batu Maung and a house in Macallum Street was for distribution in the northern region.

He said 43.2kg of caffeine, a bottle of chloroform, several amphetamine-type stimulant pills and cooking utensils were also seized.

“Three people including a woman were arrested at 10.50pm on Friday. They are believed to have been active in the illicit trade for about a year,” he added.

“They were able to escape detection for so long as they moved the laboratory every seven to 10 days.

“They have since been remanded for 10 days pending investigations.”
