体格を活かした悪質強盗グループ捕まる
アンパン：昨日、小柄な身体を利用してここ3ヶ月だけでも14件の家を強盗したギャンググループ”midget”が捕まった。8人のメンバーであったこの強盗グループは下は14歳、上は23歳で構成されていたが、メンバー全員が13歳ぐらいに見える華奢な体格をしていた。犯行手口の殆どは夜中に家の人が寝静まった頃、家の外にある排熱孔のパネル2枚を外したスキマから侵入していると供述した。アンパン・ジャヤOCPD警視官のアメァ・アワル氏は野原をうろついているグループ一味を見たという報告があり、取調べをしたところ犠牲者が盗られたカメラや携帯を所持しており、逮捕したという。調べによるとメンバーの殆どは中途退学者であり中には父親が麻薬中毒者だという子供もいた。警察はもしかしたら子供達が犯行を続けた理由は父親の麻薬を買ってくるためではないかと推測しており、このまま調査を続けるとアワル氏は話した。

‘Midget’ gang of eight busted
AMPANG: A gang of “midgets” that took advantage of their small size to break into houses was busted by police yesterday.
The eight members of the gang were between the ages of 14 and 23 but were said to have the physique of a slight 13-year-old, allowing them to squeeze through small openings to enter houses.
Police said those chosen to enter homes were below five feet tall and could squeeze through louvered windows with just two panes removed.
They confessed to committing 14 burglaries in the past three months.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Assistant Comm Amer Awal said the arrests were made after the Pandan Indah Residents Association reported seeing a group of people loitering in a field.
“Officers from the Pandan Indah crime prevention unit picked them up at 2.30pm. Once at the police station, they blurted out their crime.”
It is learnt that police seized four stolen handphones, a digital camera and RM250 which were taken from the homes of victims.
They were also in possession of a motorcycle which was reported stolen in Salak South.
Initial investigations found that the burglars were opportunists who usually prowled the area early in the morning and struck when their victims were asleep.
They would look for houses where gates were left opened, or where there were openings in the doors, windows or grilles.
The suspects were mostly school dropouts from broken families and some of their fathers were drug addicts.
Police are investigating whether they turned to crime to finance their
fathers' drug addiction.
