パワーシャベルが泥棒の目標に

タイピン：建築業者は近頃、泥棒からパワーシャベルを盗まれぬよう見張っているため、睡眠不足の日々が続いている。パワーシャベルに使われている水力ポンプはRM１０万もする大変高価なものであり、この部品を狙って出没する強盗が近頃増えている。そこで５人の建築業者がマレーシア華人協会（MCA）に頼み、警察がこの事件に対処するように願い出た。MCA実行委員のダトゥック・ホ・チェン・ワン氏は早急に警察に届けを出すようにはなし、建築業者はもし強盗等がきても手を出さないように指示した。
最近の被害ではシンパンの作業場で働いているソー・カン・スンさん（48）が被害にあっている。事件当日、今週の水曜日の午後１１時に突然６人の強盗達が突然襲い掛かってき、ミャンマー人の作業員を縛りつけ、パワーシャベルについている水力ポンプ、道具、そのほかのエンジンを奪い去っていき、被害額は少なく見積もってRM10万だという。
警察は早急に捜査網をしき、強盗等を一網打尽にするようだ。

Thieves target excavators

TAPING: Contractors here are having sleepless nights following a spate of robberies in which their excavators were stripped of their parts.

Some of the parts such as the excavators’ main hydraulic pumps can cost up to RM100,000 each, and the contractors believe that the robbers come with blowtorches to cut out the parts.

Five of the contractors turned to the MCA service centre here, hoping that police would act on the matter.

Pokok Assam assemblyman Datuk Ho Cheng Wang, who is also a state exco member, said the contractors were also worried for the well-being of their workers who could get hurt if they were confronted by the thieves

The most recent theft was at a workshop in Simpang, here, owned by Soo Kam Sun, 48, a contractor residing in Changloon, Kedah.

In his report lodged at the Jitra police station in Kedah, Soo said six robbers tied up his Myanmar worker at about 11pm on Wednesday and stripped his excavator of its hydraulic pumps, along with a lorry gear box, a tool set, a refrigerator and several recently serviced engine components worth about RM100,000.

Another contractor, Cheah Joo Seang, 40, said he was hit twice by the robbers.

Contractor Chia Boon Hooi, 40, said that over a year ago, one of his excavators parked in Jalan Simpang here was not stripped of its parts, but the robbers came with a low-loader and tried to drive away his machine.

However, when some of his workers gave chase, the low-loader stopped about 5km away and the two robbers in it fled.

“My men caught one of them and handed him over to police, but shortly after that I saw the robber out of custody having breakfast in Simpang,” said Chia.

Larut Matang OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Ahmad advised the contractors to see him.
