学生の犯罪が年々増加

クチン：警察総括監察官のタン・スリ・ムサ・ハッサン氏は学生の逮捕人数が多くなっていることが懸念されていると本日の記者会見で話した。殆どの逮捕者の犯罪は麻薬や社会悪などで捕まっており、去年では3,550人の学生が拘留され、その内、1,831人が犯罪を起こしたケースであり、さらに殆どは13‐18歳の間だという。ムサ氏は学生の犯罪は年々増加しており、1年のある一定の期間に犯罪が増えていることが分かったと話した。このままの調子で増えていくとマレーシアは社会のガンのような青年の手によって未来が破壊されていくだろうと語る。そのためにも親、コミュニティーリーダー、政府たちは犯罪と学生の関係を断ち切るために助け合わなければいけないだろう。警察士官学校で行われているカルキュラム（教育省が学生の管理をし、警察が人格形成や訓錬などの手助けを行う）は１つの対応策として有効であり、今年の士官学校生徒の数は例年より約2,000も上回ったと語った。最後にムサ氏はシブ州、クチン州、ビンツル州等の主要都市にはすでに16組ものギャングスター達が潜んでおり、力を着々と付けているらしく警察の対応や今後の学生犯罪の対処は一刻の猶予もないだろうと話した。

IGP: Increase in number of students arrested worrying

KUCHING: The increase in the number of students arrested for criminal activities, drugs and social illls is worrying, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

He said 3,550 students were detained for various wrongdoings last year in 1,831 reported criminal cases.

“Of the number, 3,432 of them are in the 13 -18 age group,” he added in a message read out at a parade in conjunction with the 37th anniversary of school Police Cadet at the state police headquarters at Jalan Bahruddin here on Thursday.

The message was delivered by state Commissioner of Police Deputy Comm Datuk Talib Jamil.

Musa said the number of students arrested for crimes were 2,713 and 2,889 respectively in 2004 and 2005 .

There were 1,499 and 1,607 reported cases involving the students during the same period.

“If this problem is not addressed, it would become a cancer that could destroy the future of youth and the community in general,” he added.

Musa said parents, community leaders and the government should work together to help check the involvement of students in criminal activities and social ills.

On the school police cadet, he said it was set up as a co-curricular activity by the Education Ministry and Police to help in the character building and disciplinary training of students.

Musa said the number of school police cadet had jumped to more than 85,000, up from 1,960 in the early years.

Later, DCP Talib was tight-lipped when asked by reporters if any politician had links with the secret societies in Sarawak.

“Let us (police) do our job. Anyone having information on gangsterism should come forward,” he added.

Musa, who visited here and Sibu earlier this week to check on claims of widespread gangsterism in certain areas in Sarawak, has said that there were 16 gangs operating in Sibu, Kuching, Bintulu and other major towns.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said in Parliament last week that gangsters in Sibu were getting more powerful and were controlling the prices of daily essentials, like eggs.
