高所作業車が転倒

ペナン：昨日の午前10時、ペナンのジャラン・ウディニにて高所作業車が転倒し、アームに付いていた台車に乗っていた20歳の男性が死亡した。死亡したアマッド・ファウジー・セッドさんと一緒に台車に乗っていたアブドゥル・アジズ・ハシムさん（25）は重傷であるが幸いにも命に別状はなく、現在ペナン病院で治療を受けている。アジズさんはアームを伸ばす距離がいつもより長いと感じたと病室で語る。2人が高架道路の蛍光灯のチューブを変える作業している途中に高所作業車が転倒し、崩れるように落ちていったと一部始終を見ていた同僚のアミァ・アブドゥル・ラァマンさんは話した。さらに事故が起きた時間がもしラッシュアワーであったのならと思うとぞっとすると話した。警察は高所作業車・オペレーターの事情聴取を行うと話した。

Worker killed, another injured

PENANG:A 20-year-old man was killed when the carriage he was in plunged 20m onto Jalan Udini.

Ahmad Fauzie Said and Abdul Aziz Hashim, 25, were changing fluorescent tubes on the Gelugor flyover when the skylift hoisting the carriage toppled at 10am yesterday. The skylift was parked at the Gelugor roundabout.

Ahmad Fauzie died on the spot while Abdul Aziz was injured.

A colleague, Amir Abdul Rahman, who saw the incident, said both men were in the carriage that was attached to the skylift arm.

“I guess the arm must have extended too far,” he said at the Penang Hospital where Abdul Aziz was warded.

Amir said Abdul Aziz probably survived when Ahmad Fauzie cushioned his body during the impact.

“Luckily, there were no passing vehicles. I shudder to think what could occur if it was a rush hour,” he said.

He said their employer in Kepala Batas was contracted by the Penang Municipal Council to maintain streetlights.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said the skylift operator-cum-driver has lodged a police report.

“We are investigating to determine if there was any negligence,” he said.

The Jalan Udini tunnel was closed for two hours to facilitate investigations.

A large crowd had gathered at the flyover and roundabout to watch fire and rescue department personnel extricate the body from the mangled carriage.
