Residents of the University Towers in Petaling Jaya fled their apartments
upon sensing the tremors and huddled near the guardhouse befor returning
to their homes 15 minutes later.
Padmarathy Supramani,27,said the tremors lasted more than a minute."I
fled as soon as I felt the building sway.I was fortunate as I lived on
the fourth floor and made it downstairs in a short time.My friends on
the ninth and 10th floor felt the full effect. It was so bad that some
items placed on the countertops crashed to the floor,"she said.

things. But less than five minutes later,we received instructions from
the building management to evacuate,"he said. They were allowed to
return to their offices after a Fire and Rescue Department team found

However, shoppers and tenants at the Amcorp Mall in Petaling Jaya went
about their weekend unaware of the tremors. When met yesterday, they all
expressed surprise at news of the quake, saying that they did not know
of the tremors until they were informed by friends and family members
through their handphones.
When contacted ,a Civil Defence Department spokesman confirmed that they
received enquiries on the tremors from the public shortly after it struck."However, there
were no emergencies reported. The calls we received were only from people
who wanted to know if the tremors they felt were real,"said the spokesman.
Meanwhile,a spokesman with the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department
said they received an alert from the Meteorological Department on the
quake, adding that no untoward incidents were reported.
