Rice pot roulette syndicate busted
KLANG:Who would have thought that simple household items like the electric
rice cooker and the table fan could be turned into a gambling machine?
A syndicate in Klang apparently did it by assembling the items together.
For the 'homemade'roulette wheel,the syndicate attached a 20-inch rice
cooker steel casing, which acts as a base for the spinning disc, with a
motor that was stripped from a fan.
Although it was a fan cry from the ones found in casinos, the wheel was
believed to have attached a number of gamblers to the outlet at a restaurant
in Batu 14,Jalan Kapar.
Police believe the syndicate had been operating for more than a month.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Jamil Ayob said the syndicate's
luck ran out when police received a tip-off last Thursday and raided the
place.
He said police first went to a house near the restaurant at 11 pm where
they nabbed a 35-year-old man who was so engrossed at a jackpot machine
that he failed to notice the police personnel standing behind him.
Police seized 17 RM1 coins from the machine.
Upon serching the team checked the restaurant next door and found a room
where the roulette machine was kept.Police found RM50 in the drawer of
the machine.
They also found a slot machine which had a balance of only RM1.80.
