FIRE DISRUPTS FUNERAL SERVICE
RUSH TO SAVE THE DEAD
[ KUALA LUMPUR ] The wake for an elderly man was interrupted by a fire
at the Batu 14 squatter settlement in Puchong yesterday.At the height
of the fire,several residents were seen puching the coffin to safety.
The man died of lung cancer on Wednesday,and family and relatives were
at the house about 7.30am yesterday to pay their last respects when fire
broke out at a neighbouring house.
Seeing the other residents carrying their valuables and escaping the blaze,relatives
of the deceased decided to push out quickly before any serious damege
was done.
The funeral service continued later in the day and the deceased was buried
at a Chinese cemetry in Puchong.
Some 13 houses were razed in the fire.
Pupils of the nearby Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Han Ming were evacuated
at the height of the blaze.
Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Abu Hassan Sahadad
said the pupils were allowed back into the school some 20 minutes later
when the fire was brought under control.
