Roadblock crash after laksa meal
[ PENANG ] Three friends returning home from a laksa meal in Gurney
Drive were killed in an accident yesterday.
The trio,who were in a Proton Wira with a friend,crashed into a police
roadblock at 2.02am at the Jelutong Expressway near the Tesco Hypermarket.
They were travelling from George Town towards the Penang Bridge when the
accident hapened .The car overturned after hitting the roadblock.
Three policemen and a motorcyclist whom they were checking at the roadblock
also died in the crash.
The policemen were Lance Corporal Ridzuan Jaafar,41,of Alor Star,Kedah;volunteer
reserve constable Shamsuri Mohamed.30,of Mergong,Kedah;and constable Lok
Wan Loo,35,of Paya Terubong,Penang.
Those in the Proton who died were driver Rokaib Mohd Amin,20,of Gambang,Pahang;Mohad
Azrul Nayan,21,of Pekan,Pahang;and his girlfriend Azura Romli,20,of Pendang
,Kedah.
The motorcyclist was Mohamad Izwan Badri,19,of Bota,Perak.
State police chief Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee said the car was believed
to be speeding and overturned twice at the roadblock when the driver lost
control.The speed limit on expressway is 80km per hour.
He said police had set yp roadblocks along Jalan Tanjong Tokong,the Jelutong
Expressway,the junction of Jalan Bagan Jermal and Jalan Kelawei,Lebuh
Light and the junction of Jalan Greenhall and Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah
to check on stolen motorcycles.
Wan said the road was slippery due to heavy rain.
